Sugar, The Sweet Devil

16 September 2024

Adored by children and craved by adults. This sweet little devil creeps in our bodies, with the pleasurable feeling it gives our palates and senses.

Stressed? grab chocolates! ----- happiness
Short fused? ice cream should solve it! ---- good mood
Irritable? a coke will do! ---- better

We may not notice it but we are becoming sugar addicts. These short-lived highs are the very reason of our crashes! We may have a temporary energy boost but when the sugar is used up it is replaced with lethargy, irritability and low mood. Hence the cycle of searching for some other treat to chew on.

To add to it, high refined carbohydrate consumption also gives rise to many diseases like metabolic syndrome, heart disease and cancer (Myhill and Robinson, 2016) 1 .

Sugar imbalances are experienced by people who fuel their body mainly with carbohydrates. Refined and processed carbohydrates which are highly accessible now a days are the worst culprit (Myhill and Robinson, 2016). Sugar is not the solution, eating right is.

How do we eat right? This varies depending on the person. Each person’s body has basic and unique needs. How we should eat depends on our body’s constitution, age, gender, lifestyle and degree of physical activity (World Health Organization, 2020) 2 .

Eating right limits our cravings and helps us achieve balanced and sustained energy levels through the day.

Stop falling for the sweet devil! Learn how to eat right and power up your body naturally!
